The Next Generation of Community Learning Hubs

Community-owned, teacher-led, student-centered!

Honoring Native Land

“Every community owes its existence and vitality to generations from around the world who contributed their hopes, dreams, and energy to making the history that led to this moment. Some were brought here against their will, some were drawn to leave their distant homes in hope of a better life, and some have lived on this land for more generations than can be counted. Truth and acknowledgement are critical to building mutual respect and connection across all barriers of heritage and difference.”

What We Do

3L’s improves literacy rates by serving the entire community; from schools, to families, and students and teachers. We seek to change one neighborhood at a time. Our holistic approach provides support for the “whole child”, disrupting the systems that negatively impact the child's ability to learn. We focus on developing curriculum, supporting teachers, and providing resources for parents to re-engage and re-calibrate learned behaviors to fight the literacy gap.

OAKLAND’S LITERACY CRISIS

In Oakland, California less than 1 in 5 Black children can read at grade level and only 18.6% of Latinx students are doing well enough to be considered proficient readers overall; this is compared with a district wide average where 3 out of 4 White student meet or exceed standards for being on grade level academically without supervision!

Dr. Bri Moore

3Ls is committed to breaking cycles of poverty through literacy. We have an innovative model that provides education and empowerment and involves families on every level; as students' first teachers, future educators, and social justice advocates.

The goal is to reinvent the cycle of empowerment and teach one another new skills instead of allowing illiteracy and inequality to continue dismantling the next generation.

Every policy in every institution in every community in every nation is producing or sustaining either racial inequity or equity between racial groups.
